GAME ANGLING
2010 - EYEBROOK RESERVOIR 30th September
This year's final was always going to be tough as during the preceding
week most of the Midlands waters had stopped fishing for some reason. Practice
days just prior to the final had been producing just one or two fish per
angler, unless you were Welsh that is!
Conditions on the day could not have been better with a light steady
breeze and overcast sky but still the fish did not come out to play, as
evidenced by top bags only consisting of four fish and a rod average of
1.7.
Two browns were caught, the best being 3lbs 3ozs by David McCreedy
(Northern Ireland) but the best fish, indeed record fish, was a rainbow of
17lbs by Bob Jones (Wales).
Inevitably this meant that the winners were Wales with 26lbs 10ozs, second
were Scotland 'A' with 14lbs 15ozs and third Scotland 'B' with 14lbs
13ozs.
Top individual (surprise, surprise) was Bob Jones (W) 20lbs 4ozs, second
was Kenny McGuckin (Sc B) and third David McCreedy (NI) 10lbs 15ozs.
Also we must thank the management of Eyebrook who
kindly put up three boat vouchers and six fishing tickets to be given out
as prizes.
Finally should you be fortunate enough to qualify next year please remember to
report to the weigh in station, even if you have not caught anything.
Please note that this not a one day event, you are expected to stay the
night before the final, fish the match and attend the presentation meal.
If you cannot commit yourself to the full agenda then let your regional
organiser know as soon as possible so that he can get a reserve.
Also I recommend that you arrange to have at least one practice session
on the day prior to the final. You are representing your region and it is
your responsibility to try as hard as possible.
Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a
year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know
will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a
family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach
the hotel.
