GAME ANGLING
2011 - EYEBROOK RESERVOIR 29th September
Arriving on Wednesday morning we were told that the fishing had been
tough and expected to get tougher with the heat wave expected on the
competition day!
During a pleasant three hour afternoon session we caught four fish,
with the two weighing 4lbs 6ozs each, sorted! WE found out in the hotel
later that people fishing the Tuesday and Wednesday had been having
terrific bags, all from surface feeding fish.
However, as usual the weather changed and the steady southerly breeze
the day before did not materialise. The day started with a misty flat calm
which became a furnace when the mist burnt off. This was only slightly relieved
by a very, very gentle breeze during the middle of the competition, dying
away to flat calm again later.
Fish were showing all over the main basin area but hooking them was
difficult. Successful method on the day was throwing a blob and two nymphs
at rising fish.
Top three individual anglers were Scott Telford (Sc A) 7 fish 22lbs 6ozs,
Bob Jones (W) 8 fish 22lbs 3ozs and Kieron Thomas (W) 8 fish 19lbs 13ozs.
Heaviest fish was a Rainbow of 5lbs 7ozs for Bob Jones (W) closely
followed by one of 5lbs 6ozs for Scott Telford ScA). As far as I am aware
no Browns were caught.
Also we must thank the management of Eyebrook who
kindly put up a boat voucher and two fishing tickets to be given out
as prizes.
Finally should you be fortunate enough to qualify next year please remember to
report to the weigh in station, even if you have not caught anything.
Please note that this not a one day event, you are expected to stay the
night before the final, fish the match and attend the presentation meal.
If you cannot commit yourself to the full agenda then let your regional
organiser know as soon as possible so that he can get a reserve.
Also I recommend that you arrange to have at least one practice session
on the day prior to the final. You are representing your region and it is
your responsibility to try as hard as possible.
Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a
year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know
will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a
family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach
the hotel.
