2011 - Thursday 13th November - Orford Island, Suffolk 

 Bright skies and a steady south easterly breeze greeted the finalists as they stepped out of the hotel. A short pleasant drive through the Suffolk countryside saw them all on Orford Quay where they loaded their tackle and themselves onto the ferry for the half an hour trip down to a spot called The Narrows. A two hundred yard walk across the shingle and they were facing the North Sea.   

First the first two hours fishing was steady but not as hectic as local regional organiser Mark Allington had feared because earlier events had produced winning catches of over two hundred fish! Then when the tide started to push through hard a massive raft of 'alien' weed stopped fishing at all distances for a period of nearly two hours. Catches picked up after the weed thankfully disappeared.

In all 683 sizable fish were recorded which included 609 Whiting, 37 Dabs, 16 Dogfish, 14 Pouting, 5 Cod and 2 Bass. So many fish in fact that it took over two and a half hours to calculate the results, surely our best shore final ever.

We stayed in the White Lion Hotel right on the Aldeburgh seafront and we received such a welcome and an excellent service
from all the staff that we look forward to returning there sometime in future. If you are in that part of the world this hotel has our highest recommendation.

 Next year's final will be fished at Hythe, Kent on either the 8th or15th November.

Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach the hotel.

Scoring is total number of position points, where first in zone gets one point and last eleven, ie. three zone wins would give a team total of 3. If a team has only two members then they will be credited 11 points for the missing team member.
