GAME ANGLING
2009 - EYEBROOK RESERVOIR 28th August
A 5mph wind was forecast for the morning of the match, much
better conditions than the previous few days when we had thunder storms one
day followed by high winds the next.
Earlier practice had shown that the fish were all up in the surface in
the Main Basin and that dry flies were the order of
the day. So at 09:30am we left the dock to the sound of a klaxon and most
people set up for drifts across the Main Basin.
However as in previous years practice days bore no resemblance to the
actual final, the fish did not seem to be feeding and as had been the case
previously fish were throwing themselves out of the water seemingly
attempting to get rid of parasites. Fish were taken on dry flies and small
wet flies but did not appear to be interested in nymphs or lures.
Unfortunately the South East regional team dropped out again this year,
these finals are advertised a year or more in advance so please ensure
that if you qualify and cannot make the final let your organiser know so
that he can get a reserve.
Next year's final will be will be in October date tba as fishing in
August as been pretty tough. The rod average this year was only 1.625.
Finally should you be fortunate enough to qualify next year please remember to
report to the weigh in station, even if you have not caught anything.
Please note that this not a one day event, you are expected to stay the
night before the final, fish the match and attend the presentation meal.
If you cannot commit yourself to the full agenda then let your regional
organiser know as soon as possible so that he can get a reserve.
Also I recommend that you arrange to have at least a one practice session
on the day prior to the final. You are representing your region and it is
your responsibility to try as hard as possible.
Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a
year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know
will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a
family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach
the hotel.
