GAME ANGLING 2018 - DRAYCOTE WATER 22nd June Twenty-six anglers left the jetty at 9.00am faced with a day of bright sunshine but fortunately only slight North to North westerly winds. The spread of boats was split equally, some heading to Rainbow Corner and others to the Tower and ‘boils’ area. Those that had practiced on the day(s) before the final knew that the majority of trout were holding off the main dam where there were large shoals of small fry. In spite of the very warm and bright conditions the trout were holding in the top four feet. Sport was very brisk from the start, especially round the boils, where the first limit of twelve fish was reached by 11.00am. By mid-day the boats were well spread out over the dam area and a steady number of trout were being caught around Tower Bank and A, B and C buoys on a variety of methods/lines. Most successful
appeared to be anglers fishing a Di 5 line coupled with a black snake and
a ‘roly poly’ retrieve or a fast glass/Di3 line with size 12 biscuit
FABs or candy boobies retrieved slowly. Still some anglers managed
to have good sport on other methods, including a floating line/cat’s
whisker combination. What was consistent though was the quality of
fish. Most were around the 2lbs mark but getting them to the net was
not easy as they fought so well. To experience such great sport in
unfavourable conditions was a great tribute to Draycote Water fishery and
the absence of any time bonus ensured the result would be a close
one. We would like to thank the fishery management for their continued support of this event in providing tackle for the prize giving. A tremendous thank you to Craig Barr from Flash Attack Flies for his sponsorship where he provided six free flies for each angler plus fly packs and fly lines for the prize giving. He has provided us with a special code to enable members to get 20% off their orders from his fly company www.flashattackflies.com and is happy for this to be extended to members friends and family (contact Jim North for the code). Should you be fortunate enough to qualify next year please remember to report to the weigh in station, even if you have not caught anything. Please note that this not a one day event, you are expected to stay the night before the final, fish the match and attend the presentation meal. If you cannot commit yourself to the full agenda then let your regional organiser know as soon as possible so that he can replace you with a reserve. Also I recommend that you arrange to have at least one practice session on the day prior to the final. You are representing your region and it is your responsibility to try as hard as possible. PLEASE NOTE THAT NEXT YEAR'S FINAL IS ON FRIDAY 22Nd JUNE. Previous year's results - 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017
Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a
year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know
will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a
family holiday you must contact the angling council first so we can
arrange that you get our room rate, do not approach
the hotel.
