2018 - Thursday 9th November - Aldeburgh, Suffolk 

 Due to ferry difficulties the final was fished around Aldeburgh rather than the original venue of Orford Island. Local organiser, Kevin Eley, chose three separate zones with zone A at Thorpeness, zone B just to the north of Aldeburgh and zone C to the south of Aldeburgh. 

With the agreement of all the team captains the fishing times were brought forward an hour to suit the changed venue and try to beat the inclement weather which was forecast later in the day. The new starting time of 9.00am meant competitors had to make sure they got up early for breakfast, to ensure they had plenty of time to get to their zones and be ready to fish. Good fishing was expected and the venue did not disappoint with plenty of Whiting and Dabs being caught, measured and returned to the water. Other species taken included Pouting, Rockling, Eel, Bass, and Cod.

Following the six hour competition the anglers cards were collected in, checked and the results collated. Consistently high finishes in all three zones ensured that the home team, Eastern Region, won the team trophy.

Special thanks to Kevin Eley who acted as local organiser and Dave Grieve who assisted Kevin in pegging the zones when most of the competitors were still in bed, also to the White Lion Hotel at Aldeburgh for superb accommodation, food and hospitality.

 Next year's final will be fished in Deal, Kent on Friday 1st November 2019.

Please note that accommodation for these finals is booked at least a year in advance and numbers are based on the regional teams that we know will be taking part. If you want to bring your partner or make the event a family holiday you must contact the angling council first, do not approach the hotel.

Scoring is total number of position points, where first in zone gets one point and last a possible eleven, ie. three zone wins would give a team total of 3. If a team has only two members then they will be credited 12 points for the missing team member. No fish caught gets that competitor twelve points.
